Government schemes pay some or all of the fee for eligible people who live or work in Ireland.
Training staff for the EU AI Act? Article 4 asks organisations that use AI systems to take measures to support the AI literacy of their staff. It doesn't require a certificate. Read our guide to AI literacy training.

Can I learn AI for free?
Yes. 49 of the 119 courses we list are free, and 28 of those give a free certificate or badge. Examples include Elements of AI: Introduction to AI (Ireland), Claude 101 and Work smarter with AI.
Are there free AI courses in Ireland?
Yes. eCollege courses are free: "All of our courses are free for you including course costs, exams, materials, etc" (you "you must be resident in the Republic of Ireland with a PPS number and be over 18"). AIReady.ie is the Government's free AI skills website, and CeADAR's EDIH for AI courses are fully funded for eligible organisations. Springboard+ is "free for unemployed participants and returners to the workforce". See funded AI training in Ireland.
What is the best AI course to take?
It depends on your goal, so we judge by cost, time and whether the certificate is recognised. For a free, short start with a free certificate: Elements of AI: Introduction to AI (Ireland) and Claude 101. For a tool you already use: the provider's own course (OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google). For a recognised Irish qualification: one of the 13 NFQ awards we list.
Are AI courses worth taking?
A free course costs only your time, so it is a low-risk way to learn the basics and decide what to study next. Paid courses and awards are worth comparing on hours, certificate type and whether a funding scheme covers part of the fee. We do not make claims about jobs or salaries.
